Meet our Advisory Board Members: Jyoti Tailor

The opportunity to join our Advisory Board is just one of the benefits of taking part in our leadership development programmes. We recently sat down with Jyoti Tailor, Vice President Finance Operations Middle East and Africa at Hilton and Ethnic Senior Leaders Programme graduate. We asked about her insights about the ESL and her Board role.

Tell us about your experience on our ESL Programme?
It was a great experience, primarily because the programme was specifically focused on people from my background and also because it was really wonderful to become part of a community of people who I could identify with.

How do the learnings from the ESL Programme add to the tools and confidence required in stepping into your Board role?
One of my key learnings was that everyone has imposter syndrome at some point and that I need to be bolder and braver.

What does your appointment mean to you and what are your personal goals for this appointment?
I am really keen to learn from the vast experience of the other Board Members and use their knowledge to help me make decisions in my own career. I have recently started a new role where I sit on the Executive Committee of a sub-region of my business. Sitting on the WiHTL Board gives me a unique insight on the roles that different individuals play and the dynamics of the group which is very helpful to me as I navigate the challenges of my new day job.

In your new role as a Board Member, how does it feel to be working alongside senior leaders within this sector?
I’m very excited and feel incredibly privileged to work alongside the other Board Members. Everyone has been very welcoming and I already feel like I am part of the group.

What do you hope to contribute to Board discussions?
I would like to use the learnings I have from my own work experience – as well as my experience of being on the Board of a charity – to help grow the WiHTL organisation. In particular, I am very interested in growing the organisation within the Middle East (where I have recently started a new role) as it has the potential to impact a large number of people in a very positive way.

What kind of support have you had from your colleagues, mentors or line managers regarding your appointment?
My business has been very supportive of my appointment.
